Plans are funny…

plan/plan/

noun- a detailed proposal for doing or achieving something. an intention or decision about what one is going to do. a detailed diagram, drawing, or program, in particular.
verb- decide on and arrange in advance. design or make a plan of (something to be made or built).

When Chase and I set out on this journey, we were confidante, committed, ready to serve the Acholi people group and completely unaware of what journey God would take us on. Yes, we had plans and still do. But, more than ever we have grown to realize we should approach our plans as David does in Psalms as he says,

“Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning.

For I am trusting you.

Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.”

While Chase and I were in the states in November our prayer was for the Lord to provide enough funds for us to stay as long as He wanted us to serving in Uganda. At the end of our fundraising efforts we had raised enough money to stay until August, 2015. This was our plan from day one when we stepped on a plane on August 3rd, 2013 to move to Uganda for two years. He provided, we felt God was just in this entire journey and we were affirmed in our steps by His provisions. Until this April, we were moving straightforward seeking where God wanted us to serve next. So many things sounded great, but we had no affirmation.

In April our foundation of planning started crumbling down. Just one week before we had planed to purchase one-way tickets to the US the president of Four Corners Ministries was visiting Abaana’s Hope and requested a meeting with Chase and myself. Pretty routine right? Wrong. He expressed the boards desire for us to pray about serving at Abaana’s Hope indefinitely. Yes, indefinitely. Say what? I thought we had been seeking God’s will this entire time. We were humbled, shocked and our minds immediately started spinning; not because we did not want to stay, but because we thought God had spoken. I had no certainty about anything. We were torn because we love these people, this place and everyone we serve with, but we felt God had spoken. This place might seem scary to some, but this is where we have built our foundation as a married couple. We have spent more time in Uganda than in America as a married couple. This is our “together” home. We both had no clue what God was telling us to do, so we decided to commit ourselves to prayer and ask Him again what He wants us to do.

After many nights of prayer we felt, and still feel God is telling us not to make this our forever home, but to continue serving until December to be able to help with many upcoming transitions happening this fall at Abaana’s Hope. Once we felt the direction God was telling us to go, I fearfully sent an email to find out how much we would have to raise to stay until December. To our surprise, probably more mine, if all of our monthly pledges continue, we will only have to raise about $2000 USD to stay until December. We were shocked the number was not higher, but shaky knowing we still have to raise $2000 more dollars for all of this to work out. Funds may not come in and put us purchasing a plane ticket before December. As terrifying as having no definite plan is, this leaves us in one place, literally relying on God daily for our next move.

As our time here is extended, we request you to pray for us as Paul had requested in Ephesians; Ask God to give us the right words so we can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike. So pray that we will keep speaking boldly for him, as we should.
