It is one of those sleepless nights in Uganda where the fan cannot touch the heat or drown out the noise from parties. I have unfortunately become accustom to seeing 1 a.m. We are dreadful friends to say the least.
As I tossed and turned I decided to try and download some of my old music from Itunes. When we moved to Uganda my Iphone was wiped clean several times and I have not taken the time to download music. In the states there was rarely a day that I was not jamming while driving, running or getting ready for the day. But, in Uganda, our vehicle does not have an auxiliary outlet, or even a radio for that matter, it is not safe for me to run on the streets and I do not spend time primping everyday because it is point less in this heat. So music has not been apart of my daily routine. After tonight, that will change.
The first song I played tonight was not by chance. It was Blessings by Laura Story. I have always loved this song and even remember sharing the lyrics with my First Baptist Church Opelika Discipleship girls. But, oh’ so much has changed in my life since I last sat in that youth room with those sweet girls {now ladies}. The words pierced my heart so fiercely this evening. I hope this song is also a blessing to you… no pun intended. 😉
We pray for blessings {for our people group},
we pray for peace {in the hearts of the Acholi people}
Comfort for family {while we share the love of Christ so far away from them},
protection {everyday &} while we sleep
We pray for healing {for so many suffering that we encounter weekly},
for prosperity {for funds to continue serving}
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
And all the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things‘Cause what if your blessings come through rain drops {this morning they did}
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguiseWe pray for wisdom {while giving Godly counsel}, Your voice to hear
We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt your goodness, we doubt your love
As if every promise from Your word is not enough
And all the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we’d have faith to believe‘Cause what if your blessings come through rain drops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguiseWhen friends betray us {when we are fooled by a smile}
When darkness seems to win {when we see the evil hand of satin at work}
We know that pain reminds this heart
That this is not,
This is not our home
It’s not our home‘Cause what if your blessings come through rain drops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You’re nearWhat if my greatest disappointments or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy
What if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 3:20
