Since the beginning of July Hannah, the Abaana’s Hope Intern, and I have been spending time every Thursday at the Women’s Refuge Center playing and teaching the three small children {who are to young to go to school} the song “Jesus Loves Me.” What a joy it has been to color, laugh and hear them catching on to different parts of the song each week. Hannah’s time is slowly wrapping up, but I know for sure these children will always remember that Jesus loves them .
Once upon a time I owned a shirt (or maybe two) that I loved with all of the National FFA Organization Agriculture passion in side of me. And people, at the time, that was a lot! The shirt was one of my all time favorite graphic fitted tees, because what high school kid in the early 2000’s did not like a good graphic tee?!
The shirt was an FFA graphic black tee with lipstick writing saying, “women make agriculture look good.” I have searched high and low for a picture of the shirt and have come up short. But, trust me, it was a dandy one! 😉
Today, I remembered this shirt as I watched several women getting after it on the Abaana’s Hope farm. It is the first harvest of the year in Northern Uganda and there is a lot of work to be done the old school way by manual labor without a tractor.
Living in another country has opened my eyes more to how blessed I am to have been raised in land of the free because of the brave. I love and miss my native land, but I am thankful I have a new found respect for what it means to be an American and for all of those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that America can be the land of the free. This past Wednesday Abaana’s Hope was bursting at the seams with laughter, singing, dancing, and so much joy! Over 300 children came to hear about Jesus and have fun at AH. And they did just that! The Gardendale First Baptist Church sent a team of people full of Christ’s love and youthful energy.
